Current Psychiatry “Gets” Fibromyalgia

April 13, 2009 By FibroHaven 8 Comments

I read this article today in Current Psychiatry online magazine. It is a peer-reviewed magazine, meaning the articles are written for and to other psychiatrists. So reading it was kind of like listening in on their private conversation about Fibromyalgia - I didn't understand some of the technical terms used, but it was enlightening to read how the psychiatric world views Fibromyalgia and patients diagnosed with it. I have to say, I think they get it! At the very least the doctor who wrote the article does.   Sharon B. Stanford, MD is the Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Family … [Read more...]

Hospital Chief of Acute Pain Fabricated Medical Studies on Lyrica

March 12, 2009 By FibroHaven 4 Comments

It is tragic the lengths medical professionals will go to to continue receiving funding from big pharmaceutical companies. This story demonstrates the corruption in the medical community which stems from pharmaceutical companies having too much influence and political power.  Of course it was the unethical practice of Dr. Reuben that is featured in this story, but he is just a symptom of a much larger problem - not that I am excusing his behavior in any way.   Here is the article from the Wall Street Journal's Health Blog.   By Sarah Rubenstein We’ve followed plenty of controversies around … [Read more...]

Improve Your Fibromyalgia With Laughter Yoga

February 17, 2009 By FibroHaven 2 Comments

There are approximately 6000 clubs around the world that practice laughter yoga as a way to improve mood, health and overall wellbeing. Here is a description of laughter yoga from the official Laughter Yoga International website:   Laughter Yoga is a revolutionary idea – simple and profound.  An exercise routine, it is fast sweeping the world and is a complete wellbeing workout. It is the brainchild of Dr. Madan Kataria, an Indian physician from Mumbai who started the first laughter club in a park on 13th March 1995, with just 5 people. Today, it has become a worldwide phenomenon with more … [Read more...]

Things I Love #5: Free Lunch Fridays

February 6, 2009 By FibroHaven 4 Comments

What's that? You have never heard of Free Lunch Fridays? Well then you need to meet my sister, because she is so awesome and loving, and she would totally invite you to come!   My sister lives about an hour away from me, but a few months ago she accepted this really great job just a few miles from my house. Ever since she started working there, we have made the effort to have lunch together at least once a week. Okay, so our lunch date is not always on Friday, but it is always fabulous! We laugh and gossip and complain and sympathize and share and laugh some more. Even though we text and … [Read more...]
