May 11, 2009 By FibroHaven 6 Comments

It is a six week, creative nonfiction class on personal essay. Here is a short description of personal essay from my class syllabus:   In his introduction to the definitive anthology on the subject, The Art of the Personal Essay: An Anthology from the Classical Era to the Present, essayist Phillip Lopate writes, the personal essay “should certainly be celebrated, because it is one of the most approachable and diverting types … [Read more...]

In Honor of Every Mom Living with Chronic Illness

May 10, 2009 By FibroHaven 4 Comments

I often wonder how you do it. How do you take care of your health and wellbeing while fulfilling the numerous selfless duties of motherhood? And I think I know the answer. After the dinner is cooked and the homework is done and the teeth are brushed and everyone is tucked safely in bed, maybe then, for a moment, you have a chance to consider yourself. Sometimes a flare-up may force you to consider yourself sooner than you normally would have, but even then you struggle with putting yourself first. Best Chocolate Cake Ever! Just Happens to be Gluten Free

First my sis made it for my husband and I to congratulate us on how disciplined we were being with our new GF life. A perfect little 8 x 8 pan of sin! We cut into the cake and were amazed at how super moist it was. I looked at the little square of chocolate cake on my plate, and couldn't believe that it would … [Read more...]

I initially hesitated to share the following information with you about a new book on Fibromyalgia, primarily because I only know of it from a press release I received. I have not read the book. 15 Counterproductive, Needless, and Delaying Things I Did Today

May 7, 2009 By FibroHaven 9 Comments

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Procrastination is a behavior which is characterized by deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. Psychologists often cite procrastination as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision. Psychology researchers also have three criteria they use to categorize procrastination. For a behavior to be classified as procrastination, it must be counterproductive, needless, and delaying. Procrastination Tales Of Mere Existence Counterproductive, needless and delaying ways I spent my time … [Read more...]
