Today I am the Tortoise, not the Hare

July 20, 2009 By FibroHaven 6 Comments

Do you ever feel like you have bitten off more than you can chew? Man I have a lot going on right now - a lot of good things going on right now. I have teased in the past that I am working towards bigger and better things for FibroHaven. I want this to be more than just a blog where I come to relieve my tension, share my experiences, and hopefully educate and entertain you. I want this blog to be the foundation for a whole infrastructure of community, heath, and wellness, which we are all so hopefully pursuing. And I am working on it. To that end, I am finding that each day I have more … [Read more...]

Tips for Easing Fibromyalgia Pain Naturally

July 14, 2009 By FibroHaven 33 Comments

With the June 30, 2009 vote by the Federal Drug Administration advisory committee to eliminate prescription acetaminophen-combination painkillers, Fibromyalgia patients have to be concerned. Concerns of abuse, addiction, and even cases of death, led to their recommendation to ban prescription painkillers like vicodin and percocet. The committee also voted to lower the maximum dose of over-the-counter painkillers with acetaminophen, like Tylenol and Excedrin, due to a rise in cases of liver damage. According to the FDA, acetaminophen remains the leading cause of liver failure in the U.S. It … [Read more...]

Things I Love #7: My New Walking Path

July 13, 2009 By FibroHaven 5 Comments

Ah, nature! Is there anything more restorative? Ever notice when you are sitting at the beach, or walking through a forest you feel more relaxed, more connected, more observant? Even simply gazing out a window onto a garden or nature setting is calming and soothing. Nature's healing power is undeniable. I am blessed to live in North San Diego County. There is a great energy and spirit here - magical really. It is hard to explain, but the land and the community seem to promote health and wellness. Just two miles from my front door is a beautiful lagoon and nature preserve Batiquitos Lagoon. I … [Read more...]

The Watermelon Credo

July 8, 2009 By FibroHaven 9 Comments

Watermelon has been a source of inspiration for me recently! Last week I was happily munching on some watermelon while on twitter and I posted this: "Is watermelon good for me? It seems too indulgent to be healthy! Yummm..." It was meant as a lighthearted comment, but it created such a buzz of enthusiasm for watermelon I was overwhelmed. So many people responded with health info, recipe ideas and an overall love of this super-fruit. Just take a look at this great article someone sent me on the health benefits of watermelon. Good stuff. On the 4th of July, my husband and I spent a fun and … [Read more...]

Product Review: Tempur-Pedic Pillows

July 7, 2009 By FibroHaven 17 Comments

Several weeks ago I was contacted by a marketing agency and asked to participate in a product review of Tempur-Pedic pillows. It was a simple offer. They would send me two free pillows, The ComfortPillow and The NeckPillow, and all I had to do in turn was to review my experience using them on my blog. Sign me up! But what about the fumes? Actually before I agreed to participate, I had one major concern I needed addressed; do Tempur-Pedic pillows release any fumes? I have heard reports to that affect about "memory" material but had no direct knowledge. As most of us with Fibromyalgia know, … [Read more...]
