Do You Hate the Lyrica Commercials as Much as I Do?

May 1, 2009 By FibroHaven 16 Comments

Every time a commercial for Lyrica comes on I cringe, and then I quickly change the channel. I have not seen a single commercial to which I could actually relate to the actor trying to pass themselves off as a Fibromyalgia patient and sufferer. They irritate me to no end, and yes I have considered that it is possibly because I choose to be drug free, and I have made no secret about my disdain for drug companies, but mostly I think it is because the actors and the commercials are not true representations of a person living with Fibromyalgia.   Take the latest ad for example:   Lady walking … [Read more...]

Current Psychiatry “Gets” Fibromyalgia

April 13, 2009 By FibroHaven 8 Comments

I read this article today in Current Psychiatry online magazine. It is a peer-reviewed magazine, meaning the articles are written for and to other psychiatrists. So reading it was kind of like listening in on their private conversation about Fibromyalgia - I didn't understand some of the technical terms used, but it was enlightening to read how the psychiatric world views Fibromyalgia and patients diagnosed with it. I have to say, I think they get it! At the very least the doctor who wrote the article does.   Sharon B. Stanford, MD is the Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Family … [Read more...]

Which Came First, The Pain or The Emotion?

April 3, 2009 By FibroHaven 16 Comments

We have all heard about the woefully closed-minded doctors who believe Fibromyalgia is just a symptom of depression. Research proves that depression doesn't cause the pain of Fibromyalgia, but there is an undeniable emotional component to the condition. Which came first, the chicken or the egg - Fibromyalgia or emotional distress? I like to believe I was an emotionally stable person on the day I broke the toilet with my head and began my descent into Fibromyalgia hell, but if I am truthful with myself, I was not/am not as strong as I like to believe. So does the fact that I try to control my … [Read more...]

Shopping at Walmart Causes Fibromyalgia

March 6, 2009 By FibroHaven 5 Comments

File this under Public Service Announcement.   Some people may think the story here is the unlawful and dangerous risks Mr. Palmer took acting out on behalf of his wife, but it is the story within the story that is really important. It is key not to miss this point; Walmart gave his wife Fibromyalgia!   A Linden man is under arrest after he climbed up into the rafters at Wal-Mart in Dunn and allegedly caused a public disturbance. William Arthur Palmer, 46, of McBryde Street was charged with injury to real property and disorderly conduct. "He was climbing around in the rafters cutting down … [Read more...]

It’s a Gluten Thing!

March 3, 2009 By FibroHaven 36 Comments

Gluten Free 10 Days and Counting Bread, crackers, cereal, soy sauce, gravy, beer - just a few of the things I have eliminated completely from my diet since Dr Shores told me I am gluten intolerant. I look at that list and inherently I know they are all "bad" for me foods, but I did not exactly realize why. It is not a "fat" thing or a "carb" thing with my body, it's a gluten thing. So how have I been feeling since eliminating glutens from my diet? Well - better! The first thing I noticed was an increase in energy. I began feeling less fatigued and sluggish. Then I noticed that my head was … [Read more...]
