New Book on Fibromyalgia – Claims to Fill in the Missing Pieces

May 8, 2009 By FibroHaven 8 Comments

I initially hesitated to share the following information with you about a new book on Fibromyalgia, primarily because I only know of it from a press release I received. I have not read the book. But then I remembered that knowledge is power, and the more resources we have at our disposal, the more options we have to chose from. Please do not take my sharing of this information as an endorsement of any kind. Read it for yourself, and if you are interested there is a link to the authors website with more  information about his practice and philosophy.    Here is the press release: FOR … [Read more...]

15 Counterproductive, Needless, and Delaying Things I Did Today

May 7, 2009 By FibroHaven 9 Comments

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Procrastination is a behavior which is characterized by deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. Psychologists often cite procrastination as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision. Psychology researchers also have three criteria they use to categorize procrastination. For a behavior to be classified as procrastination, it must be counterproductive, needless, and delaying. Procrastination Tales Of Mere Existence Counterproductive, needless and delaying ways I spent my time … [Read more...]

Are You Aware? Fibromyalgia Awareness Day is May 12

May 6, 2009 By FibroHaven 3 Comments

(Repeal Existing Stereotypes about Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases), to memorialize the birth date of Florence Nightingale, the English army nurse who inspired the founding of the International Red Cross. Nightingale contracted a paralyzing, CIND-like illness in her mid-thirties and spent the last 50 years of her life virtually bedridden. Despite her … [Read more...]

Why I Love Yoga, and Why You Will Too

May 5, 2009 By FibroHaven 15 Comments

It has been just over two months since I took my first yoga class and discovered how healing and compatible with Fibromyalgia the practice is. I know I have mentioned my new passion for yoga on several posts since, but I have not gotten in to the "Why?" and "How?" of it. Each time I leave a class I have a huge desire to reach out to everyone I know suffering from Fibromyalgia and chronic pain and share with them how light, refreshed and rejuvenated I am feeling - a feeling I have never experienced, even before I was diagnosed with FM and was active and fit. The gentle and controlled movements … [Read more...]

I Do Not Want to Think About Fibromyalgia Everyday

May 4, 2009 By FibroHaven 8 Comments

I am realizing today the shift my new writing assignment is forcing me to make with my blog. You see I have tried very hard to make my blog specific to Fibromyalgia, how it affects my life, news and information on Fibromyalgia, etc., but I am realizing that there is a reason I have not been writing about Fibromyalgia everyday. Mainly it is because I do not want to THINK about Fibromyalgia everyday. When I got up this morning my first thought wasn't "I wonder what new and exciting thing happened in the world of Fibromyalgia overnight." No, it was more along the lines of "Mmmm, coffee." and … [Read more...]
