The Many Triggers of Fibromyalgia

January 28, 2009 By FibroHaven 11 Comments

Most patients with Fibromyalgia can pinpoint the inciting incident they at least suspect was the catalyst that triggered their Fibromyalgia symptoms. But as is the case with all things Fibromyalgia, no two incidents are necessarily the same. For some it was post pregnancy or minor surgery when their symptoms began. For others it was after a viral infection or a bout of mono. Emotional stress is another common cause cited by patients. I have not come close to listing all the variables and possibilities that trigger Fibromyalgia, which clearly helps demonstrate the complexities doctors face … [Read more...]

Viva la Vida

January 26, 2009 By FibroHaven 2 Comments

Do you ever feel that you are on the verge of something real, something good? Do you ever feel that despite all you are suffering with, or maybe because of it, that you are on the precipice of something deeper than you could have imagined, and that all you have gone through has brought you to this moment, to this time, and that everything is exactly how it is supposed to be? I feel that way right now.   It started with my blog, which forced me to open up about the fact that I have Fibromyalgia, and about how very hard it is to manage my life sometimes. I feel like I have finally come clean, … [Read more...]

Melancholy Monday

January 12, 2009 By FibroHaven 2 Comments

I have been contemplating the value of online support groups and social networking sites. Value is not really the right word for it, but I am not sure what the right word is. My first exposure was to a yahoo support group for Fibromyalgia. It did not take me long to realize that it was not the place for me. Each person on there had a signature which listed all of their illnesses and health complaints. The longer the list the more clout you had. People were listing every trivial thing wrong with them in an attempt to make their signatures longer. I was really turned off to it, and it did not … [Read more...]

No Resolutions Here, Just Resolve

January 5, 2009 By FibroHaven 7 Comments

I think by now everyone knows that something like 85% of all resolutions fail, so why commit yourself to something with only a 15% success rate? I made a resolution years ago to not make any more resolutions, and that is the one resolution I have stuck with. This year Rob and I are resolved to improve our health. We are both turning the big 4-0 in 2009 and have decided we want to spend the next decade healthier than we did the last. Because of my Fibromyalgia we have not been able to do the hiking, backpacking and other outdoor activities we once enjoyed doing together. An unfortunate side … [Read more...]

Unexpected Kindness

December 23, 2008 By FibroHaven 1 Comment

I was inspired to write this post by Moonbeam McQueen and her Blue Buffalo post. A really nice man did a really nice thing at the best possible time and Moonbeam wrote a lovely post about it. I encourage everyone to go read it. Moonbeams's post was simmering nicely in the back of my brain yesterday while I was having lunch with my sis and my niece. My niece loves to dig through my purse - she has been doing it since she was a toddler and for the life of me I can not imagine why. My purse must be so boring compared to her Mom, the glamour Queen's! I keep a notepad in my purse to help … [Read more...]
